Leonor, a final-year student at Sacré-Coeur Lindthout podcast on decarbonation and global security

The idea that renewable energy itself is inherently peaceful, needs to be nuanced

The key to understand that nuance lies in the materials needed for decarbonisation. How does the energy transition impacts geopolitical stability? Why is climate suddenly a global security issue? Green growth relies on the idea that we can continue to grow the economy without pumping out more greenhouses gazes. The resource paradox in green energy relates to the fact that the economic growth needs to be coupled with incredibly intensive mineral extraction. Relying less on oil weels means more reliance on mine extractions. Every turbine, every battery, or solar panel needs tons of specific raw materials and means digging deep.

From oil weels to mine extractions

Listen to Leonor's podcast and find out about the many economic al and environemental impacts of transitioning from fossil energy to renewable energy.
