This exchange programme with peer students in Bangladesh around climate change, has been the most impactful learning experience for me during my secondary school studies.

I think I was already aware of natural disasters, but this time I felt much closer, especially to the Bangladeshi students, because they shared with us how they experienced it. I felt a sense of compassion, and we were able to better understand how they live through it. I felt much more connected to this particular issue.

This program allowed students to understand the severity of global warming by seeing real people and creating a social and emotional connection. They also realized the importance of being able to make themselves heard and understood through English as a lingua franca.

Unlike other initiatives, it is encouraging to see that the institutions that were involved from the start continue to keep the project alive.

What is interesting and source of inspiration is to see how creative people in Bangladesh are to ensure education is guaranteed even when facing climate constraints.

The advantage of taking action, beyond the positive impact of the action itself, is that you are forced to talk about it with others in a natural way.

We are the same age, but we are not going through the same thing. They (in Bangladesh) are much more affected by climate change than we are. That’s why we have to do something. We all have to do something in regards to climate change…

Never mistake a person’s humility for weakness, for the humbler you can be, the greater is your strength.

The meaning of dignity that people have here (in Bangladesh) and of mutual respect is very strong…. That’s something we, as europeans have to understand and have to learn.
